Summer Make-Up

I love the summer; the warm weather, going to the beach with friends, festivals, summer fashion… Summer is just great. But I’m used to wearing make-up a lot (not everyday, but to school and work I wear make-up). My skin isn’t really bad, but I have some big pores and dark circles I want to cover up. And my lashes are really thin and almost invisible. I want to cover these things up, but I don’t want to wear to much make-up. This is my summer make-up routine:

Face

At first I put on a daycream with SPF, I use the one from Pro-Active. Then I apply the primer from Catrice around my eye area and at places were my pores are bigger. Instead of using foundation, I use the BB cream for an oily skin from Garnier all over my face, especially underneath my eyes. This BB cream also has SPF 20 in it, that’s really nice because it is important to protect your skin (not only in the summer, you should always use SPF). Normally I would cover up blemishes with a concealer, but in the summer I skip this step. I apply a little bit of powder at my T-zone.

Eyes

I don’t wear to much make-up on my eyes in the summer. I will sweat it off anyway, so I only make a thin line with eyeliner, and use waterproof mascara.

Lips

I don’t wear lipstick often in the summer, most of the time I use lipbalm or lipgloss. These will keep my lips moisturized. I use something with SPF in it, because my lips sunburn really fast (my lips become bright red, and that doesn’t look good on me at all).

You should keep in mind: less is more. Try to use waterproof products, you don’t want to sweat your make-up off. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen regularly, and drink a lot of water.

Allergic Reaction

When I woke up today, I wanted to take a look at my sunburned legs again. But my skin isn’t just sunburned, I have weird spots on my legs! Red and white, and it hurts like hell. It is sunburned too, but I’m also allergic for the suncreen!

Yesterday I already noticed that my legs started to become red, so I put more sunscreen on. But they just became redder! I thought it was weird, so I put a towel on my legs, so they wouldn’t be exposed to the sun anymore. But that didn’t work.

So the places were I didn’t put many sunscreen on, aren’t red at all. But those spots on my legs.. Horrible! I hope they’ll go away soon. It’s really hot here, so I want to wear my bikini and shorts… 😦

The sunscreen I used was from Nivea, SPF 20. My mother is also allergic to it, she has the same spots on her back. We’re both not really allergic to a thing (like nuts or something), but sometimes we just have an allergic reaction and then we don’t know what caused the reaction. But this time it was really clear, we both put on extra sunscreen on some places.

This isn’t critic to Nivea, the sunscreen worked fine for my sister. But you should be careful with your skin, don’t use some products you don’t used before. Especially in the summer, you’ll probably walk around in shorts and show more skin. You don’t want to end up like me, this really sucks.

Sunburn Tips

Another hot day in the Netherlands, and of course I tried to get rid off my extreme white skin. Even though I used lots of sunscreen, my skin is sunburned. It’s not so bad, but it hurts a little bit. Do you have the same problem? Then let’s get through this together with these tips.

Your damaged skin needs moisture, so you should drink a lot of water and put an moisturizer on your skin. After sun, bodylotion, anything that will put moisture in your skin and cools it down is fine. I recommend aloe vera, it has a calming and cooling effect. Don’t use soap on the damaged skin, because it can dry out the even more.

It feels so nice to put a wet towel or tissue on the sunburned skin. It’s better to use cool water instead of really cold water, because your skin will shock if you put something really cold on it. You should also take a luke warm bath or shower, so your skin can cool down. Don’t stay in the bath or the shower too long, because it will dry out your skin.

And of course you shouldn’t irritate your damaged skin. If it’s wet, don’t rub it dry with a towel but pat it dry. Don’t expose it to the sun anymore and avoid any heat on it.

Skin Care + Eye Drama Mascara

There are many things that will make your skin look healthier. Today I’ll tell you some of the things.

The first thing: don’t smoke! It will cause wrinkles and your skin will look older. You should also protect your skin from the sun, or it will have the same effects. You should always use a daycream with at least SPF 20 in it. A healthy diet and drinking lots of water will make your skin clear.

You should wash your face twice a day with a mild cleaning lotion. Don’t use soap, some residues will be left. And it’s really important that you don’t pop your pimples. Your skin will irritate even more, and it’ll lead to scarring. Try to touch your face as less as possible, you don’t want all the bacteria from your hands on your face.

Don’t ever use harsh products on your skin, even if you have a really oily skin. It will only damage your skin. Of course you want your skin to look healthy, but getting rid of pimples and damaging your skin isn’t the way to achieve a nice and healthy skin. I used harsh products for a while (think about Pro-Active), but since I used mild, oil-based products, my skin has become much more healthier. My pores are smaller, and I don’t have as many pimples anymore.

And now the second part: the mascara. Yesterday I introduced the Acid i-Divine Palette and the Eye Drama Mascara from Sleek MakeUP to you. I didn’t have time to make a nice look with the palette yet, but I tried out the mascara. I told you that I would make a picture of it, but I was very disappointed in it. It didn’t gave my lashes volume, it didn’t even make them longer! It just made them black. I won’t buy it again for sure.

Daily Make Up Box

Everyone has some products that they don’t use very often, and products that they use everyday. Some products I use may be only available it Europe of in the Netherlands. Let’s take a look in my daily make up box.

It’s kind of messy in here, haha. But it isn’t really much, because I use a lot of different products on my eyes, so those aren’t in here. There are also some skin care products in it.

The lip balm I’m currently using is the Vichy Aqualia Thermal Lips Soothing and Repairing. It’s pretty hydrating and has SPF 30 in it, so I like it. You also see a day- and nightcream on this picture. I use them very often, though I don’t like them that much. They’s from Pro Active, and I spend a lot of money on them, but they didn’t do a thing for my skin at all. But I think it’s a waste if I don’t use it, and there isn’t much left in them.

This is the primer I use, Prima and Fine from Catrice. It keeps my make-up in place, so I like it a lot.

Since I tried the BB Cream from Garnier, I’m in love with it. But it doens’t hide all my redness and pimpels, that’s why I also use the Coverstick from Essence. To keep my skin matt, I use the Dream Matte Powder from Maybelline.

Most of the time I use this Multi-Colour Rouge from Catrice. Sometimes I use a orange blush, but that isn’t very often. The mascara I use is the Sexy Curves Mascara from Rimmel, but this one will be removed out of my daily box soon. I ordered a mascara from sleek, I hope that one can give the volume that my thin, short lashes need.

Garnier BB Cream

The first BB cream here in Holland, was from Garnier. Everyone was really negative about it; it was more like a tinted moisturizer and it made your skin look oily. But I heard a lot of good things about their new BB cream that’s oil free. I have an oily skin, so I tried out this Miracle Skin Perfector.

The text on the packaging is Dutch, but it says:

Anti-shine

Blurs pores + imperfections

Evens tone

Moisturises

SPF 20 UV Protection

This is the BB cream for a light skin. I’ve bought it for € 7,95.

The packaging is a long tube, and very hygienic. But I prefer a pomp, because I have trouble with getting the right amount of product out. But I like tube packaging too, it’s smaller and easier to take it with you.

The product is thicker than I expected, but I don’t mind that because it still spreads easy.

It blends really well, and it really does what it promised. My pores really looked smaller and were less visible (and that’s a miracle, because they’re huge). Imperfections were less visible too, but I still had to conceal some redness. It covers really well, just like a foundation, and my T-zone is shine free.

I love this product; it works really well for my oily skin and it isn’t expensive at all if you compare it with a foundation or a skin care product. I would definitely buy this again.

Castor Oil

I guess this happened to many people; you spended a lot of money on a skin or hair care product, but it doesn’t help at all. I know how you feel, it happened to me so many times. That’s why I started replacing some of my expensive, chemical junk for natural products, like castor oil. Castor oil is a great product for both your skin and your hair.

Hair

Castor oil is known as a hair-grow-product. It’s said to make your hair grow faster and thicker, and leaves your hair soft and shiny. Because your hair grows out of your scalp, you should also apply the oil there. You only need a little bit of the oil. It is really thick and sticky, so you should spread it out. You can leave it in over night, but be sure to wrap a towel or an old scarf around your head. You don’t want stains from this oil on your bed, because it is really hard to get out.

If you have light and thin hair like me, it’s better to wash the oil out next morning. Otherwise your hair will look greasy. Because I think castor oil is too thick and sticky for my thin hair, I combine it with coconut oil (This oil is perfect for really dry hair, I’ll write a post about it soon).

Skin

If you have an oily skin, it might be a little bit scary to put on oil on it. But putting oil on your skin is so much better than putting on some alcohol-based product. Because it dries your skin out, it is working only temporarily. Your skin will react with making more oil, so in the end it doesn’t work at all.

If you put oil on your skin, your skin doesn’t have to make more oils. The most effective way to use it, is leaving it over night as a mask. Before you apply it, you should open your pores with warm water. The oil will purify your skin. You don’t notice the results directly, but after a few weeks you’ll see the difference.

Some people are afraid to use it on their skin, because it promotes hair growth. But don’t worry; castor oil can’t make hairs appear on places where they normally don’t appear. The hairs on your face are so thin, they won’t be affected by the oil.

Castor oil isn’t expensive, and you just need a little bit. There may be other oils that work better for you, so I’ll be writing about other oils too.
