Nail Polish Tips

I really suck at nailart. Actually, not only nailart, just painting my nails will turn out in a mess. And when I finally have it on my nails, it will chip off and I’m too lazy to touch it up. But that’s going to end, because I want to wear nail polish more. I found some tips, so I’ll share those with you!

Before you apply a base coat, it’s important to prime your nails. Everyone knows about the “base coat, polish, top coat” thing, but many people forget the step “priming”. If you prime your nails, you take off all the oils, so you have clean nails to paint on. You nail use polish remover for this.  Then you can start with the base coat. This base coat will strengthen your nails, and protect it.

Now it’s time to paint on the polish. Take the time, every coat should be allowed to dry.  (This is the part were I go wrong. I always want to finish it quickly, so after a few second I’ll put on the next coat.) If you are right-handed, it’s better to start painting with your left hand (and vice versa).  After you applied the polish, you can apply the top coat. Allow this one to dry as well!

If you are really, really bad at nailart, you should try the nailart stamps. Even I can’t screw that up. I bought a cheap stamping set a while ago from Essence. I don’t know if you can buy it in other country’s, but I guess you can buy these at almost all the places where they sell nail polish. If you put rhinestones on your nails, it’s better to seal them in with a top coat, so they will stay longer.

I hope this will help you, and maybe I’m able to show you some pictures of my nailart when it’s done. Thank you for reading! 🙂

Skin Care + Eye Drama Mascara

There are many things that will make your skin look healthier. Today I’ll tell you some of the things.

The first thing: don’t smoke! It will cause wrinkles and your skin will look older. You should also protect your skin from the sun, or it will have the same effects. You should always use a daycream with at least SPF 20 in it. A healthy diet and drinking lots of water will make your skin clear.

You should wash your face twice a day with a mild cleaning lotion. Don’t use soap, some residues will be left. And it’s really important that you don’t pop your pimples. Your skin will irritate even more, and it’ll lead to scarring. Try to touch your face as less as possible, you don’t want all the bacteria from your hands on your face.

Don’t ever use harsh products on your skin, even if you have a really oily skin. It will only damage your skin. Of course you want your skin to look healthy, but getting rid of pimples and damaging your skin isn’t the way to achieve a nice and healthy skin. I used harsh products for a while (think about Pro-Active), but since I used mild, oil-based products, my skin has become much more healthier. My pores are smaller, and I don’t have as many pimples anymore.

I hope this will help you, and remember: just be nice to your skin. 🙂

And now the second part: the mascara. Yesterday I introduced the Acid i-Divine Palette and the Eye Drama Mascara from Sleek MakeUP to you. I didn’t have time to make a nice look with the palette yet, but I tried out the mascara. I told you that I would make a picture of it, but I was very disappointed in it. It didn’t gave my lashes volume, it didn’t even make them longer! It just made them black. I won’t buy it again for sure.

I hope you’ll like the skin care tips. It’s too bad that I didn’t like the mascara, but I just felt like I needed to tell you this. Thank you for reading! 🙂

Sleek MakeUP Acid i-Divine Palette + Eye Drama

A few days ago, I ordered two things from Sleek MakeUP: the Acid i-Divine EyeShadow Palette and the Eye Drama Mascara in 881 Black Out Waterproof. I was surprised when it was delivered today, because it’s earlier than I expected.

The packaging of the Acid i-Divine EyeShadow Palette is really simple and neat, but it’s too bad that the Sleek logo won’t show up on the camera. This is my first Sleek palette, and I didn’t really know what to expect. I thought it would be bigger than this, but this is of course big enough and easy to take it with you. I ordered it for € 8,50 at the webshop of Sleek MakeUP.

Wow, look at these nice colors! Especially the neon colors, I love it! I think I can make a lot of fun looks with these. I love the neon trend, so I’ll try to make a wearable eyelook with the neon colors. And you’ll see some looks with the other colors as well!

Putting the neon colors aside, the purple and dark pink are really nice too. The matte white and black will be useful too, and I love the two blue colors with shimmers, they’re so beautiful! I think I’ll use the darker green and the shimmery grey less than the others, but of course these are nice too.

The eyeshadows are really pigmented! I like that, because the colors show really well. But I should be careful, I don’t want to put on too much colors.

And here is the Eye Drama Mascara in the color 881 Black Out Waterproof. The packaging is a real eyecatcher, with the pink and blue. It was only € 4,99, what’s really cheap for a mascara. It contains 6 ml.

The brush is really flexible, and the mascara is REALLY black. I haven’t used it yet, but I think I’ll like it. For some reason, I expected a really big brush, so I was surprised when it was a long, small brush. I hope this mascara will make my thin, short eyelashes stand out more.

Tomorrow I’ll show you how the mascara looks on my lashes, and maybe I’ll make a look with the palette too. I have to go to work tomorrow, so I won’t make a really bright look. Thank you for reading! 🙂

Must Have Makeup Brushes

I love using my make-up brushes, I think my make-up looks to much better when I apply it with a brush. I use a lot of brushes, but I know that they’re not all necessary. Which brushes are a must have? I think these three are:

A powder brush, you can use it for finishing powder, powder foundation, bronzer, highlighter and blush (though I like you use an angled blush brush for that). You can use this brush for a lot of things, so you probably need this one.

A crease brush. You can apply the eyeshadow on your lid with your fingers, but I think you need a brush for the crease. This brush has a perfect shape for the crease, and makes the eyeshadow look less harsh. It’s also easier to blend eyeshadow with this brush.

Last but not least, a small angled brush. You can use it to apply gel eyeliner or make a line with eyeshadow. I use this brush a lot, because I often use eyeshadow to line my eyes instead of eyeliner.

Which brushes you need, depends on what make-up you use. Some people don’t use eyeshadow, so of course you don’t need a crease brush then. But if you wear make-up “full-face”, I think these brushes are necessary. You can apply foundation, concealer and eyeshadow with your fingers, so you don’t really need brushes for that.

I still like to use brushes, because it works better for me (and I like playing with my new brush set). But I think -especially when you’re a make-up newbie- you don’t need a whole set, but just these three. Thank you for reading! 🙂

Rainy Days Hair Care

Another rainy day here in the Netherlands. For me there are two reasons why it screw up my day:

1. I had driving lessons and I had to go over the highway for the thirth (?) time. I thought I was going to die.

2. My hair became really flat and greasy above and really frizzy underneath. It looked so nice in the morning.

Rain is a disaster for all women. There are some ways to reduce the frizz, so I’ll share some tips with you.

What you can do beforhand, it letting your hair dry naturally and put in a leave-in conditioner. If your hair still gets frizzy, you can wear it in a bun or a braid.

Your hair can look greasy if it got wet. I think the best way to solve that, is dry shampoo. Just put a some of the dry shampoo on your hair, and brush it out (only do this when it’s dry, do not brush your hair when it’s wet!). If you have curly hair, it’s better to use a really small amount of the dry shampoo, so you don’t have to brush it out. That way you can use it as a volume powder.

It’s important that you get the rainwater out of your hair, it can contain chemicals that will damage your hair. The best thing you can do, is wash your hair with a mild shampoo.

I hope this works out for some people. My hair is too short for a braid of bun, so I’ll fight the rain with leave-in conditioner, an umbrella and some dry shampoo (though I don’t really like using it). Can you tell me about your ways to fight frizzy or greasy hair? Thank you for reading! 🙂

Coconut Oil

In my article about castor oil, I told you that I mix the oil with coconut oil. This is my favorite oil of all, because it really saved my hair. My hair was always really dry and dull, and it broke off really easily. I heard that coconut oil is amazing for damaged and dry hair, so I tried it out. After the first time I used it, I already knew: this is what my hair needs. My hair became stronger, shinier and I can finally grow it longer.

There isn’t any oil that can be as easily absorbed by your hair as coconut oil. That’s because of the structure of the oil. This strong structure also keeps the moisture in your hair, it won’t let it escape easily. Moisture is really important for strong, shiny hair. It’s also important that your scalp isn’t dry, because healthy hair grows out a healthy scalp. Coconut oil is also a treatment for dandruff.

100% coconut oil is solid, it’ll become liquid when you make it warmer. The easiest way to do this, is rubbing it in your hands.

This is how I use it: I apply the oil all over my hair, more at the ends, less at the roots. I mix a little bit of coconut oil with castor oil, and put it on my scalp. I wrap a towel around my head and leave the oil in overnight. In the morning I wash it out, and my hair is really shiny, soft and a lot stronger!

Natural products are amazing for my hair. They are cheap, and you know what you’re putting in your hair. Even if you have no troubles with your hair, you should try this oil out. It will make your hair even more beautiful! Thank you for reading. 🙂

EOTD 14-07-2012

A while ago I got the Maybelline Eyestudio Bakd Duo as a gift. The colors are really beautiful, but I never really used them because I didn’t know how. Today I finally made a look with them. It’s just another everyday look, I didn’t use the colors wet so they’re pretty soft.

I used a bright pink color from Rimmel on my lips, 140 Tulip Pink. That’s why my eyes are so soft and simple. I like to match my make-up with my clothes, so I chose this pink look with my scarf with pink flowers.

I applied the right side of the Maybelline eyeshadow 80 Cosmic Black all over my eyelid. The color is a mix of light pink, bright pink, blue and purple. I used the big shader brush from the Bamboo Set from Zoeva.

With the liner brush from the same set I made a soft line along the lashes, I used the left side of the eyeshadow. It’s a black with a lot of shimmer.

I used this soft pink to highlight the inner corner and under my eyebrows. The eyeshadow is from Catrice, and I used the smaller shader from the bamboo set.

I used a liquid eyeliner from Miss Sporty to make a really thin line, and the mascara I used is the Sexy Curves mascara from Rimmel.

Because this is a really soft and simple look, I’ll make another look with the Maybelline Eyestudio Baked Duo in a few days. That one will be a night look. Thank you for reading! 🙂

Daily Make Up Box

Everyone has some products that they don’t use very often, and products that they use everyday. Some products I use may be only available it Europe of in the Netherlands. Let’s take a look in my daily make up box.

It’s kind of messy in here, haha. But it isn’t really much, because I use a lot of different products on my eyes, so those aren’t in here. There are also some skin care products in it.

The lip balm I’m currently using is the Vichy Aqualia Thermal Lips Soothing and Repairing. It’s pretty hydrating and has SPF 30 in it, so I like it. You also see a day- and nightcream on this picture. I use them very often, though I don’t like them that much. They’s from Pro Active, and I spend a lot of money on them, but they didn’t do a thing for my skin at all. But I think it’s a waste if I don’t use it, and there isn’t much left in them.

This is the primer I use, Prima and Fine from Catrice. It keeps my make-up in place, so I like it a lot.

Since I tried the BB Cream from Garnier, I’m in love with it. But it doens’t hide all my redness and pimpels, that’s why I also use the Coverstick from Essence. To keep my skin matt, I use the Dream Matte Powder from Maybelline.

Most of the time I use this Multi-Colour Rouge from Catrice. Sometimes I use a orange blush, but that isn’t very often. The mascara I use is the Sexy Curves Mascara from Rimmel, but this one will be removed out of my daily box soon. I ordered a mascara from sleek, I hope that one can give the volume that my thin, short lashes need.

These are the products I use everyday. Just ask if you want to know more about a product. And thank you for reading! 🙂

Zoeva Bamboo Set

A few days ago I ordered a set make-up brushes from Zoeva, and here they are! It’s the Bamboo Set, with 12 brushes. This is what the site says about the set:

Eco-friendly and vegan.

Like a spa ritual for your skin, this bestselling set comes with 12 selected brushes, that are made from bamboo handles and taklon bristles (vegan). This natural product comes in an eco-style cotton bag and will become your perfect travel companion thanks to its travel size. The super soft and gentle touch of the bristles suits all skin types, even the most sensitive.

In Asia, bamboo is considered as a symbol of longevity and flexibility.

The brushes from left to right:

Buffer,  powder,  blush,  foundation,  concealer,  shader,  smaller shader,  crease,  eye blender,  fan,  liner,  lip.

There was also a note with the set that said I should clean the brushes before the first use and at least once a month. I clean my brushes every week, so that’s no problem for me.

I used the set this morning for the first time, and I love it! I always used cheap drugstore brushes, this is the first time I used a set and I love it. They are really soft, and nice to work with. The set was € 22,-. They were delivered in 2 days, that’s pretty fast because they came from Germany (I live in Holland).

I can’t wait to make more looks with them! 🙂

Garnier BB Cream

The first BB cream here in Holland, was from Garnier. Everyone was really negative about it; it was more like a tinted moisturizer and it made your skin look oily. But I heard a lot of good things about their new BB cream that’s oil free. I have an oily skin, so I tried out this Miracle Skin Perfector.

The text on the packaging is Dutch, but it says:

Anti-shine

Blurs pores + imperfections

Evens tone

Moisturises

SPF 20 UV Protection

This is the BB cream for a light skin. I’ve bought it for € 7,95.

The packaging is a long tube, and very hygienic. But I prefer a pomp, because I have trouble with getting the right amount of product out. But I like tube packaging too, it’s smaller and easier to take it with you.

The product is thicker than I expected, but I don’t mind that because it still spreads easy.

It blends really well, and it really does what it promised. My pores really looked smaller and were less visible (and that’s a miracle, because they’re huge). Imperfections were less visible too, but I still had to conceal some redness. It covers really well, just like a foundation, and my T-zone is shine free.

I love this product; it works really well for my oily skin and it isn’t expensive at all if you compare it with a foundation or a skin care product. I would definitely buy this again.
